Ok so it seemed like a REEEALLY long time ago that I said some people from Moldova were coming to visit Waseca to learn about Agritourism and our Club was sponsoring them. Well holy crap, they are coming in three weeks! As a reminder, our Club applied through the Open World program where emerging leaders from European countries come to the US to learn about specific areas of interest. We beat out quite a few other applicants. Even though I have known about this for months, the program only gave me roughly 6 weeks to plan for their arrival. I had to wait to get the profiles of the visitors to see what they wanted to learn about and fit programming around that. Even though the delegation of visitors will be out and about during the day, we will need the help of Rotarians to engage with them in the evenings and on the first Saturday they are here. They arrive Friday April 21st and fly out the morning of Saturday April 29th.
Host them at your home for dinner, join up with a few other Rotarians to take them out for dinner, take them to a meat raffle, or to bingo at Katie O'Leary's. The things that sound mundane to us are part of our local culture that they came here to see. If you need help getting all of them transported around, I will be happy to assist. These folks are coming to experience rural Minnesota, you do not have to keep them in town. If you want to take them to Mankato or where ever, that is great! Like our soon to be inducted Rotarian Julie Tesch says, even though we are in the middle of nowhere, we are also the center of everywhere.
I would ask that you reserve Sunday April 23rd at 5:00pm to meet at Half Pint Brewing Company to have a welcome event with the delegates from Moldova, our Club, some local dignitaries. Look for an event on ClubRunner that you will be able RSVP to. We will enjoy some pizza from Pleasant Grove Pizza Farm and of course beer from Half Pint. If you don't drink, their root beer is outstanding and on the house! This experience should is a great way for us to get back into the international part of Rotary International.
