Open World Delegation

As most of you read in my email last week, our Club was selected to host a delegation from Moldova for eight days to learn about Agrotourism in our area. The Mankato Club was also selected to host a delegation in July, from Poland. Their area of focus will be academia and industry. Even though we will be hosting at different times with different areas of focus, we are going to look for opportunities to engage both of our Clubs for each visit.

For our visit, our guests will participate in a welcome reception, along with full days of visits to Half Pint Brewery, Pleasant Grove Pizza Farm, Metta Meditation Center, Oxbow Park, Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Chankaska Winery, Aronia Berry Farms, Farmamerica, SROC, and more. They will also get two days to explore the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. I have a feeling the Mall of America will be a great interest to them. Our Club will be reimbursed up to $4,200 in expenses from the Open World program and the District has expressed willingness give additional support if needed.

When their full itinerary is complete, I will get that out to all Rotarians. We will be looking for Rotarians to host our visitors in theirs homes for their time in Waseca. If you are interested, please let me know. There will be six people coming, and they all of a decent grasp of the English language. One of them is a designated interpreter. I think this is going to be very fun experience for our Club and Waseca.

Happy Holidays,
Ann
Minnesota is about six times bigger than Moldova.

Save the Date: December 29th.
Our Holiday get-together is always fun and full of spirit. I'm not sure there is another Rotary Club that has more fun sitting around a table swapping dollar bills and enjoying each others' company. Bring a +1 to this event at the Lynx Room in the Starfire Event Center from 5pm to 7pm. Hopefully you won't go home crying like Ed and Brad. You can't win 'em all fellas.

Cedar Crate Farms
Cedar Crate Farms

Our goal with Cedar Crate Farm is to produce the highest quality produce in the area using sustainable methods. We believe that through the use of cover crops, companion planting and crop rotations there is little need for chemical fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides or fungicides of any kind to produce healthy, wholesome produce. Cover crops are amazing tools that they attract beneficial insects, scavenge nutrients from the air and soil to make ready for next seasons produce. They also help reduce or eliminate erosion and help establish healthy, living soil. Companion planting helps synergize the strengths and weaknesses of various produce and crop rotations, and ensure diseases that may be present don't affect future crops. By combining these strategies we seek to minimize or eliminate any need for chemicals and fertilizer and let nature do its work for us.

Food is fundamental, we all need it to survive. It's our belief that food should be high quality, local, and sustainable. It needn't be overly dressed up or processed to taste good. That food should come from a farmer you know, one who will encourage you to visit their farm for a tour!

Polio Plus Donation
Collectively, our Club donated $1,000 to Rotary International's Polio Plus campaign. Those funds were matched by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. We as Waseca Rotarians are doing our part to fulfill RI's promise to the children of the world, to make sure they experience a polio-free existence. Our small acts of generosity make a big global impact.
