Rotarians,
As we continue to grow and strengthen our Club, I want to take a moment to clearly explain our dues structure and why fundraising is not only important, it’s essential to who we are.
Our Engaged Membership Investment
Our annual financial commitment as engaged members looks like this:
Club Dues Structure (Annual)

Engaged Membership Dues (International, District, Local + The Rotarian subscription)
1 × $300 = $300

Meals (24 meetings at $12 — whether you attend or not)
24 × $12 = $288

Foundation Gift – Every Rotarian, Every Year (Voluntary)
1 × $100 = $100

Quarterly Theme Donations (Board-directed community causes)
4 × $20 = $80
Total Annual Commitment: $768
($668 without the voluntary Foundation gift)
That investment supports Rotary International, our District, and the operating structure of our local Club. It allows us to meet, to plan, to organize, and to belong to something much bigger than ourselves.
But here is the important distinction:
Dues keep the lights on. They do not fund our service.
Why We Must Fundraise
Historically, our Club developed a culture of being what many call a “check-writing club.” When a need arose, we passed the hat or wrote a check. While generosity is a beautiful trait, and one we should never lose, this model is no longer sustainable for the majority of our members. It also does not reflect what a vibrant service club should look like.
If all we do is write checks:

We miss opportunities to engage the public.

We limit our visibility in the community.

We reduce our ability to grow membership.

And we place repeated financial pressure on the same people.
Fundraising changes that.
When we host events or community gatherings:

We provide entertainment and fellowship to Waseca.

We strengthen our public image.

We invite new people into our Rotary story.

We raise funds in a way that spreads the effort across the community, not just our membership.
Fundraising allows us to support initiatives without constantly passing the hat. It gives us flexibility, sustainability, and impact.
And perhaps most importantly, it reflects Rotary in action.
Service Above Self Requires Action
Rotary was never meant to be passive.
We are builders. We are connectors. We are doers.
Fundraising is not separate from service, it is part of carrying out our causes.
It fuels:
When we fundraise well, we serve well.
As we move forward, I encourage each of you to see fundraising not as an obligation, but as an opportunity, to represent Rotary, to build community, and to strengthen our Club’s future.
We are not just writing checks anymore. We are building something sustainable. Let’s move forward together.
