Wednesday night, I have the privilege of handing out our Club's Stoltenberg Scholarship at the High School's Honors Awards Night. It will be going to a high achieving Senior who has a well rounded academic, extra curricular, and service résumé, along with a GPA of over 4.0. The student we selected this year practices Service Above Self and wants to go into the public health space while stressing the importance of childhood vaccinations. Our scholarship will provide $1,000 of aid for four years of school, for a total of $4,000. For a long time, the Rotary Scholarship was the "big one," the highest dollar amount of the evening. We're not anymore and that's ok. Having the spotlight dimmed on us has given us the latitude to make some adjustments to the scholarship.
For next year, the criteria will have more emphasis on Service Above Self and our Causes, as well as having a needs based component. We want to reward a student that is serving their community and has plans to go into a field of study that aligns with one of Rotary International's Causes. Fortunately, our Causes are broad enough that many fields of study would fall in line. We may not see our scholarship go to the highest achieving student anymore; or the student who is getting seven other scholarships. However, it's still going to go to a student that embodies what Rotary stands for and who is deserving.

Bill turns (well we wont' say how old, but it's a milestone birthday) this month. He wanted this picture taken with all of empty glasses, so his fellow Rotarians knew he was still fun at his age. Bill, there was never any doubt about your capacity for fun!
